$38 of wishful thinking, 4th gear synchros. are toast

On the other hand, it seems that I'm going to have to get creative and find a way to get another Quattro transmission, and possibly an entire Quattro. Time to talk to some neighbors with garages and bring cocktails in that case, because I'm going to have to drag one of those babies out here and store it for a while. I just don't have the budget to

1) Make a second car legal enough to park on the street in Chicago. Plus if I did that I would be robbing my neighbors of a valuable space.

2) Rent another garage space. They're expensive.

As anyone who has lived in Chicago long enough knows, if you violate #1 for more than a week you will soon be doing #2 (in both senses of the word) and then you will also be paying Mayor Daley and his fleet of towtrucks and assorted minions. There is a reason the flowers on Lake Shore Drive look so nice in the Spring -- it's because people pay through the nose when they violate parking ordinances here. Never seen anything like it, anywhere. The cops with boots descend like vultures on entire neighborhoods...entire streets of cars booted at the same time, on a regular basis.

Cheers,
Alex
