The switch is just like the one for the brake fluid, only upside-down. It floats, thus creating an open circuit. When the reservior gets empty, the floating piece sinks, and makes contact with the two wires, creating a short. That short sends 12V to the autocheck. So, if you short the two wires, the warning will stay there. if you unplug it, it will go away.

You can substitute a real short for the "switch". Jump the connector
contacts and drive around for a while with connector shorted. If the light
still goes on, then you have an intermittant open between connector and the
auto check unit.
