E-brake repair, How to? 1987 4KCSQ

hey all, thanks for the replies, here's what i did (basically larry's
suggestion). I cut off the remaining threaded portion, threaded about
1/2" using a 1/4-20 die, I then installed a 1" hex spacer, a new
section of 1/4-20 threaded rod and voila! a functioning e brake. Next
time I'll probably take everything off the car to do it, fighting
around the drive shaft wasn't any fun. but i was in a hurry to get it
back together. total cost in parts about 2 bucks, i think the threaded
rod was about 98 cents and a bag of three spacers was 75 or so. I had
the same thing happen on my coupe once but i was fortunate there was
enough left, and the cable were slack enough to just clean off the
smutz and put a new nut on.
