I can see leased ortraded in cars not having the snows go with them, either
for keeps or future resale.

Here's my input:

General Snows worn down a little bit will work for most drivers.

I want and need the tallest tread depth available to me for "bite" and
resistance to hydroplaning. I'll go about two seasons topps depending on the amount
of use they get.

Here's what I won't buy:
MultiQ, Blizzacks, or special porous compunds that wick away water as part of
their function.

The water wicking compound layer, as explained to me, is not the entire
thickness of the total tread depth. Hence this benefit is worn away in the first
few thousand miles of the tire life. New? okay, used no...................

So while these type of tires have a winter benefit to drivers, they are not
tires I'd buy used...........
So multiple tread blocks and sipes for bite are what I look for.
