[acna_pcc] timing belt tensioner damper

How in the world does the pulley come off the tensioner without the
timing belt skipping and all hell breaking loose under the valve
cover?
If it is indeed the TB tensioner that is coming apart, you're playing
with fire! I had this problem on my wife's 99.5 A4 1.8T Avant last
February, at 89K miles, and 12 of the 20 valves were bent all to
you-know-what. I had been told that based on the VIN of the car, it
should have the updated tensioner. WRONG!
At 70K miles, my advice to you would be to get a timing belt job done
immediately. Believe me, it's much cheaper than having to have a head
rebuilt! I did all the work myself, and it still cost me $1500 in
parts (hint: valves are expensive! ), not including the $150 I paid
the Audi tech at the dealer here to re-do the head on his day off. If
you want to see pics of the damage, I can provide them.
That must be the old style tensioner, and anything over 40K miles is
pushing it. The upgraded tensioner supposedly will last 90K, but
after what I've been through, I'll never push one past 70K again.
