Do Lower Profile Tires affect Speedometer Reading

No. I run stock size 17" Studded Hakka2s on my '00 S4 in the winter, and 18"
S-03s for the rest of the year. 17" is the smallest rim that will fit over
my Stoptech brakes anyhow. It was often the case in order to get a snow tire
in the proper circumference, you'd have to go down 1" on rim size. Now there
are larger diameter sizes available, so if you didn't want to go narrower,
can stay with a stock sized tire.
Bottom line is this.... don't go wider than stock and invest in a good snow
tire. Personally I run and sell Nokians which are expensive. If going to a
slightly narrower/taller tire on a smaller rim is an option, it's a good way
to save some money and increase your on-snow "bite."
