I know what you mean...

To correct this little problem, I did a custom cabin air filter out of a
Golf 3 cabin filter cut in half and some metallic chicken wire. Worked well
all summer long, then, I don't know why, in autumn, there was more stuff
blown than before !

When I looked at what I did, I figured that I forgot something very
important: a seal between the filter and the bottom of the air intake. With
my first setup, I was forcing air around (instead of through) a restrictive
media (the 6 month old filter) because I left a small slot opening at the
bottom, where all the leaves would gather... Very efficient design, Mr
Richard !

The second setup included a closed-cell foam strip that I took from a Saab
filter. The same VW half-filter is used, but this time it is firmly sit on
the foam.  All the air must pass through the filter now.
