Speedometer Problem

I had the same problem with my 89 200tq. The reed switch in the pickup was
broken. Pulled it apart and soldered the broken part. Has been working
great since then. I do have another problem with the speedo, about every
month or so it stops working. A good rap on the front
of the panel and it starts working again for another month or two. I
assume it's the solder joint on the back. It's easier to hit it once every
so often than to fix it.
You might try that to see if it will start working again.

Definitely a link between the speedo and cruise control. When the speedo
needle was erratic in my '91 200qa, it would cause the cc to disengage.
