I suspect the timing belt was never changed, since it hadn't
reached the scheduled mileage yet. But the belt schedule is
both mileage and age dependent, so it probably broke after
*10 years*.

I believe the A4 schedule calls for changing the t-belt at
90K miles, but everyone recommends 60K miles. But they also
recommend 5-6 years, if the 60/90K hasn't been reached.

Just a word of advice to others who think they're OK
at <60K miles.
