Short Lifetime For Ignition Switch modules

My Mom's '67 Country Squire (essentially the same car as the '68 Custom) had
the same issue.
It jumped out of park one day and managed to engage reverse. My Mom
(somewhat
foolishly, in hindsight) ran after the car (the door was open, she was
opening the
garage door) and tried to jump in to stop the car. Got a black eye for her
efforts,
but did manage to stop the car.

Ford did respond with a recall about 1 month later (this was probably
several years
after the car was new) which consisted of a metallic sticker with large
print that said
essentially, "Set the parking brake and turn off the engine WHENEVER leaving
the car".
This is what the NHTSA mandated.

Kinda amazing how recalls have changed over the last 30 years.
