I have seen a lot of references in the archives reguarding the
deceleration valve in relation to the idle/WOT switch comparing it to
a bypass valve.
Here is my personal experience with a decel valve failure.
@ full boost, as I watched my mechanical boost guage, the needle was
performing mini drops and re- builds. I had been going over everything
possible in the intake system to be sure there were no airleaks in it.
I was getting a really air rich mixture at full boost.
Since just about everything in the engine bay was new or rebuilt, it
was a bit frustrating.
O2 was good
I tested the injector spray.... per the bentley - good
as you know, the spark is now really good
clamps, hoses and injector orings..... sealed and perfect
come to find the deceleration valve was working intermittantly and
almost always failing when I reached full boost. creating a massive
airleak and therefore an air rich, pinging mixture at boost.
I reluctantly disconnected it and plugged the holes in the airmeter
boot and on the back of the airbox. (I know there has been a lot of
debate on this issue. releasing hydrocarbons into the system and
possibly hurting the Cat. Conv.) I will however be fully eliminating
the CIS injection and EFI'ing it to eliminate all of these varibles
and potential problems.
-hey, I still have my stock 86 5ktq to admire the primitive yet
brilliant jet-tronic injection system.
Cheers!
