Legal to import Audis from Canada into the US/California?

Hi,

I've noticed several Canadian cars for sale and at least one posting said
that it wouldn't be legal to import into the US.  Is this true of all
Canadian Audi's, or just certain ones?  Anybody know the real answer?  I'm
mostly interested in bringing them into California.

I remember a 633CSI that sat in the garage where I had work done for years
because it could not be practically modified to make it legal to register in
California.  I don't know what eventually happened to it;  probably parted
out.
