flickering lights, voltage regulator?

I dont' have a V8, but this happened on my 5000. It might be the rheostat that adjusts the brightness of the dash lights. This item can wear out and allow the wiper inside to break the path of electricity. Sometimes a good shot potentiometer/TV tuner cleaner can take care of it. Just move the adjustment back and forth to work out any corrosion or dirt. But if the mechanism is too far gone, you'll just have to replace it. Good luck.

On my V8, the lights, both in and out flicker, almost imperceptably. They
never go dark, but you can see the brightness changing rapidly.
The alternator was replaced 2 years ago with new rebuilt unit because I
didn't have time to do anything better.
Could the VR be the culprit here?
Thanks,
Ed
