BTDT! Do BOTH at the same time! It could be either the master or the slave that dies. But if one has failed, thei other will soon. Trust me, I made the mistake of jsut doing the master...slave died very soon after and it killed the new master...so I had to do both anyway! The master is easy...the slave is a BITCH. The slave is made from cast iron, the tranie housing it bolts into is aluminum. Guess what happens? Yup corosion welded together. First remove the pin holding it in. then drench with GOOD penetrating oil repeatedly over several days. Give it a few taps/hits with a hammer at each lubing to help knowkc it loose. Eventually it will pop off. Frankly, I gave up and had my local independed give it a try...he gave up...then I took it to AAMCO. They got it out...total bill for the slave was like $250-300...should have jsut let them do it in the first place...
