Faye,
I have a friend that has a factory manual set that used to belong to me. If
you are interested I'll ask him if he wants to sell it. Not sure he still
has the A6. Maybe Chris could give you an idea how much used one should go
for.
The early version of the Bentley manual on CD limits printing to one page at
a time. You first find the page you want then you click the print button,
which opens a print formatted web page which you can then print out. Very
tedious if you need more that a page or two.
The factory manuals for 92 - 97 100/S4 and A6/S6 cost a bit over $300 when
they first came out. I don't know what they were in 2000 when Audi quite
publishing paper repair information. The manual set consisted of approx 16
individual booklets in covers with 4 boxes to hold them all together. Each
booklet covers a section of the car.
Samples from my 93 - 95 Audi 90 set: (I have the manual set but no car)
2.8 Liter V6
(Engine Code AAH, AFC)
General, Engine
W42 016 197 101
2.8 Liter V6 (MMS 300)
(Engine Code AAH)
Fuel Injection & Ignition
W42 016 197 103
2.8 Liter V6 (MMS 311)
(Engine Code AFC)
Fuel Injection & Ignition
W42 016 197 104
Typical Audi over engineering! When they came out in 95 (I think) they were
labeled 92 - on and covered all the C4 chassis cars. As changes were made to
the cars updated booklets were published. they cost around $30 each. Also
they did not include the wiring diagrams, those were sold separately. The
Bentley manuals are just a republication of the factory manuals in bound
form and including wiring. The CD also contains the same information.
Learning to navigate the electronic data take a little time but once you
figure out how to get around it works very well. You can do work searches or
navigate via the table of contents, it is broken down just like the booklets
in the manual set. Of course you still need to print it out and take it to
car to get anything done. I have enough trouble remembering which tools I
need, much less memorize the whole repair procedure.
In 1996 I orchestrated the purchase of over $10,000 worth of VW, Audi and
Porsche repair manuals for the company I was working for.
Take care
Jim
