I would also suspect that the wires may have shorted out under the rear
seat. Any rubbing indications. Have you tried the fuel pump hooked up to a
12V supply and see if it works.
Good luck,
Al

Subject: Fuel Pump wires charred on 1990 Audi 100
Hi,
I stumbled onto a 1990 Audi 100 that is not operating because the fuel pump
apparently failed while being driven. The PO inspected the wires to the
fuel pump under the rear seat and the insulation on the wires was charred
and the blown in filler insulation was toasted a little around the path of
the wires.
Any ideas why this would happen? Would a fuel pump seize and draw enough
current to burn the wires before a fuse popped? Is there a possible
underlying problem that ought to bear looking into?
Thanks for your input.
Cheers!
Jim Jordan
