A8 Stalling

Andy,
Having my father owning both a 1999 and 2000 A8 (both 4.2Q), I can assure
you they need a vag-com or factory scan tool to not only diagnose, but often
to run pumps (etc.) in the diagnosis process. I wouldn't even bother
working on a modern Audi with a drivability problem without a vag-com.

Find a new mechanic, or have him invest a few hundred bucks for an essential
tool.
