Mine did the exact same thing when driving it around the back roads and 
driving hard. Glad it wasn't the tranny though $$$.

I would look for the vacuum leak first, much cheaper fix! You can get your 
hands back around under the throttle body and check the hoses.
Most likely one has a hole in it and they will be gummy. Some have replaced 
them with out taking the manifold off, but its much easier with it off  and 
to check out everything else.
