I forwarded this to the quattro list, since more heads
are better than (n)one.
By "cam shaft turns but won't kick over" I assume you
mean the engine turns over using the starter, but
ignition doesn't occur (not even a cough).
Assuming there is fuel, air, and spark (since it was
running when it overheated), the worst case would be
no compression due to the overheating (warped head,
bad gasket, etc).
Your best bet is to do a compression test to see if
there is a problem there. Testers are about $20-30
at your local auto parts store.
You can also pull the codes off your '93:

It may be that a bad sensor caused the overheating.
(And sorry to say, it may also be that the overheating
caused other problems.)
