Done but wanted to do the "easy" stuff first before I
dove headlong and ignorant into the guts of CIS..too
many things I could screw up..want to be methodical
and make sure everything else is operating correctly
first.

I agree and I'm not in the habit of doing that but
these items needed to be replaced anyway. I checked
the resistance of the temp sensors and they were shot.
The O2 sensor is probably the original and has 20
years on it..so for the sake of CAN$40...I'll probably
save that in fuel in a month anyway. As for the
decent import parts place, all around here give the
stunned "wtf" face when I say '86 Audi Coupe.

The one holding the ISV? Seemed fine when I cleaned
it and the ISV. Was thinking of trying the
ether/propane test..never had to do it..adviseable or
not?

Done. #24 in what should have been #23 but #22 is
left blank for diesels according to Mr. Bentley.

"oil pressure gauge is pegged at 5bar even when hot
and not under load."

Noticed this am that it pegs with the key in acc
position so likely electrical.

Maybe a long shot BUT the car is new to me and the
Bentley schematics are just that, schematic. I do
have a weeping/leaking heater core and know that the
jetronic unit is somewhere in there as well...is it
possible that coolant got into the unit somehow?

Thanks,

John
