Louis,
I'd avoid using any siphon pump unless it is specially made for gas.  A 
washer pump may be a recipe for disaster if the armature sparks contact the 
gas fumes.
There is always a guy at our local swap meets selling a brass siphon 
"jiggle" valve - it's essentially a non-sparking check valve that you lower 
into the liquid and then by jigging the hose it opens and closes the valve 
to pump up the fluid.  We use a similar device here to take water samples 
from wells for environmental testing - it's made out of teflon and called a 
"Waterra pump" - don't know how it would fare chemically in gasoline (and 
you'd probably need the weight of the brass to have it sink in the gas). 
I'd skip using the gas transfer pump....and I'm not going to comment on the 
Cheech & Chong method either.
