Rubber dead-blow hammers work well. You can use a large wooden dowel, or
something non-sparking, like brass. I also make sure I ground myself first
before working on anything with fuel vapors.
I'd strongly discourage the windshield washer pump method. I'm sure it
would initially work, but the gasolene would more-than-likely soften the
plastic housing or glues used in it's manufacture, easily allowing spark
(from the motor) to come in contact with some vapor. If it's not gasolene
rated, don't use it!
I've never used mine, but I have a fluid transfer hose (described in another
e-mail) in my track box. I got it at Wal-Mart or one of the major auto
stores (Pep-Boys, Advance Auto/Strauss, Autozone, etc.) for under $20.
Be careful, be safe. PITA, but not difficult for a DIY project.
