Wrong place to say this, but IF you can find one, I'd definitely go with
the a Mercedes. I have a 1987 300TD, thing goes like a bat out of hell,
doesn't smoke, parts are readily available at reasonable prices, and
gets incredible mileage for the Panzer it is. Plus seats 7 when you
really need it (third seat option.) No comparison in the safety dept.
either, IMHO, in a head on between a VW and Mercedes, we all know which
car has the best odds. Can't beat market value on MB diesels either, I
have been offered triple what I paid for it years ago, and I get notes on
the windshield and people approaching me about twice a month wanting to
buy it. I thought the people on THIS list were fanatical about their
cars until I met a few MB diesel enthusiasts.

I don't know about the Biodiesels, but there are ready made kits to
convert the MB diesels to Fryolator power.

A4? Try a V8Q, some SUV's get better mileage. Not complaining though,
worth ever nickle and then some once you get behind the wheel.

There are two types of tragedies in life. One is not getting what you
want, the other is getting it.
