It also happened recently (within the last year) on my parents' Dodge
Caravan Esplenade El Supremo (the Grand Caravan with an aftermarket roof
bubble containing a media center and hookah pipe outlets) while in cruise on
the interstate. Cruise would *NOT* deactivate with brakes or switches or
cursing and screaming, speed kept increasing to more than 90 MPH (not a fun
speed in a big Caravan loaded with schtuff at night) brakes red hot, and the
only thing that stopped it was shutting 'er down, coasting to the side of
the road, and calling AAA for a tow. I don't remember the exact cause
offhand, but I can find out tomorrow. Nobody hurt, no serious damage done,
my family refers to it as the "Run for the Border Episode."
I have never had a bonafide UA incident in any of the eight Audis I've
owned, all of which were cars produced around the time of the supposed
Fiasco, with the exception of the '81 Turbo. I have had a few high-idle
incidents but nothing beyond 1100-1200 RPM. Be careful out there,
regardless of what you're driving. :)
