The trouble with VAG is that they went to rectangular lights, then the 
awful aero ones, so long ago there is no decent junkyard source.

BMW, however, appears to me to have stayed with a quad round setup, in 
the US at least, until the US DOT finally legalized decent lighting.

Out of curiosity I pulled the starter cord on my googlator - ran into 
this, looking very interesting:

It looks like they are selling 318i twin buckets for about a hundred 
bucks.  Hmmm, when I hit the "buy" button (the only live link there) the 
price seemed to drop to $75.  The only fishy part is that there is no 
indication of left versus right...

and pretend you need headlights for a 1989 318i, to get started... these 
mostly seem to be upgrade type setups.

But still in the price range we pay for euro lights.
