Hi Tom and all,
Sometimes one lives in a place where doing your own work is crass; like the
last place I lived with "covered parking". One day I saw a guy changing a
wheel bearing on a van; there was a 10 foot circle of grease and he was
gone soon.
WRT Jiffylube. The writer of that accusation is judging the Jiffylubes of
the world vs competent workshops and certified techs. The typical Jiffylube
employee is a dead ringer for a monkey lad. The quick lube places used
check lists and boot camp yelling of commands in an attempt to compensate
for the lack of competency.
HST, I used Jiffylube to change my oil and filters a few months back;
however, I furnished the oil and filters and watched them like a hawk. The
"intro" guy wanted to know about tire pressures and I told him to skip it.
A Jiffylube place once put over a liter of tranny fluid too much in my
tranny. I used a hand pump and got it out. But then another workshop that
was supposed to be competent did the same.
The Jiffylube I used bent over backwards to get me, and probably all their
customers, to come back. They phoned afterwards. I am presently living in
a house with a garage and will change my own oil and filters for the time
being, but I would probably go back to a "Jiffylube" as a last resort.
Cheers!
