Unfortunately, I sold my '86 4000 a couple of years ago. It was a fun car.
Weight should be easy to find, check out www.audiworld.com and look at the
specs for the car. Under historical, I think.
The gearbox on these, if I recall correctly and remember past discussions on
the list, is beefy. I never had any issues with mine. It should be able to
handle a turbo conversion, but others here who have done a conversion can
chime in.
The conversion won't be "easy" but it won't be hard, either. The issue is
where to put the intercooler, extra hoses, etc, as there isn't as much room
under the hood as the 5000 10 valves have. I think it's pretty basic, though
and I know that people have done it. Google "audi 4000 turbo quattro" and
see what you find.
Wouldn't your friend be a good person to talk to regarding this? Or did he
purchase the car with the conversion already done?
