headrest disassembly question

I have acquired some headrests from a 1990 200. (These lack
the chrome colored plastic trim band around the perimeter
that the 5000s headrests had. But the same principles must
apply.)

The leather obviously has seen a lot of sun exposure and
has dried and shrunk. The underlying support structure
seems to have warped as a consequence. The fore and aft
sections of the rest are trying to pull apart. I have succeeded
in large measure to soften the leather but the warping is
not about to go away without further measures.

How do the headrests come apart? It almost seems as
though there might be a fore and aft pieces that snap
together. Has anyone btdt? I may have to sacrifice an
unused piece to figure this out.
