2001 A6 2.7T Electrical short.

Well, first, while it is very natural to just try replacing a blown 
fuse, never do it twice.  Once could be a fluke... twice means something 
is wrong and each time you blow the fuse again you risk damage to other 
components and wiring.

So now begins the tiresome task of tracing the short or fault.

Only vaguely (not familiar with the model).  One thing that was endemic 
on the older cars was wiring passing through flexible areas, like going 
to doors, eventually breaking down and opening up or shorting to each other.

Another general suspect is aftermarket accessories being wired poorly.

There is probably a controller on that circuit that keeps the lights on 
a bit after you close the door, right?  That may also be a source of the 
problem.

What else is on that circuit?
