Hi gang,
Wondering if anyone out there is an expert in the series III coupe with the
2.0 4 cyl engine - code 3A.
I was looking at this car (my brothers ) at the weekend. The setup seems to
be KE jetronic
(CIS-E? in US) with lambda control , and non-integrated Motronic ignition.
Idle control is by the familiar ISV system.
So it seems to that ignition timing is controlled by rev-counter style
monitoring (no crank sensor), hall sensor and knock sensor. We had a problem
with pinking which I cured by resetting the ignition which had too much
static advance, so I assume that the system is not able to retard beyond a
certain point.
This seems to be exposing a fault with the idle control as it now idles
very low. Idle switch and ISV check out ok. Can anyone confirm the
components of this in the KE setup? - Is it by a big relay like in the non-E
systems, or is it in the ECU for the lambda? my next step will prolly be to
monitor current thru the ISV but I'd like to know where the control system
is.
TIA Rob.
