With the proper size cap-type oil filter wrench and some extensions, it's
not that hard.
If someone put on a filter way too tight, then you're screwed. I had to pay
someone to get
a filter off that the dealership screwed on so tight that even the
"screwdriver through the housing"
method failed (the filter body twisted and tore right off).
Other than that experience, I never had issues with the oil filter once I
got the filter wrench. It's
messy, but definitely doable.
