Why the "bounces" ?

Every few days?  Yikes.  Unless you have a very unreliable ISP, that  
shouldn't happen.

The list server deactivates subscriptions, but only if they bounce  
heavily.  "soft" bounces (ie, temporary delivery errors) shouldn't  
cause many problems, and it -should- require a number of problems  
before it takes action.  Time to go look at the settings again (which  
are hopelessly confusing in how they "work" with no guidelines as to  
what is "reasonable.")

We also got slammed a few days ago with either a massive pull of  
archives (or a denial-of-service attack), which was NOT cool, given  
we're hosted in a co-op facility.  Thankfully the co-op was really  
kind about it and simply throttled our traffic back, but for +24  
hours we were not exactly nice network neighbors...
