well i haven't had a 200 but ive been reading about their issues for years.
i think the b5 will be a MUCH more reliable car overall [go ask any audi
mechanic which they see more of]. its also a lot easier to work on compared
to my 88 5kcstq and my 88 90q [never had a 3b or ann car =[ the b5 just has
fewer known weak spots than the 200. but oh.. that i-5 20vt motor is just
amamazing!
as taka suggested - the c5 s6 wagons are really cool. but.. theyre getting
on in years at this point and feel like an older car to me. they are very
nicely put together - the materials quality is way way better than anything
audi is doing these days. but the design is a bit dated. on the used market
old ur-s cars are going for nice a4 prices, while nice ones are going for
nice b5 s4 prices - and i think that's money better spent. newer chassis,
better electrics, fewerer known issues. the b5s4 is a raging BEEEEYATCH to
work on tho. lotsa stuff stufed up in the engine bay.
the b5 a4 is eaasy to work on, pretty reliable overall, lots of parts
available and cheap these days. they do have a few key weaknesses [abs pump,
control arms, etc] but solutions are well documented and readily available.
as for power.. the a4 will never be very powerful unless you spend major $
or do major surgery [standalone ecu]. there really are no well sorted big
turbo kits with the exception of apr, which is MAJOR money and still a
'small" big turbo. but you can do a k04 kit for reasonable $ and that makes
for a very peppy, fun car.
the b6a4 seems to bea very reliable car overall - there are very few known
weak spots in the design. if you can strech the budget that would be a
score. the interior is kind of boring on them, mind.
