Eric's idea would be my guess as well.  I recently had a similar problem on
my 89 100.  It turned out there was a split in a hose attached to the ISV
... hose was back under the intake manifold and the split was very well
hidden.  The heat from hot engine would soften the hose enough that the
split would open and start sucking air on attempt to restart.
