'87 CGT "overheating" after huge snowstorm

I had an elevated temperature issue on my '90tqa recently.
I was driving on the freeway in a snowstorm and noticed the temp rising,
volts decreasing, (which suggested the fan was on) and soon rising oil temp.
When driving at 55mph symptoms were less. Increase to 65mph temp would
rise.
Stopped to observe and the entire grill/air way was covered in ice. Likely
from slush from the road.
Kicked it all off and all was good.
I have never had this happen before with any vehicle, I guess conditions
were just right.
