Alternator/Starter Wiring

Thank for your reply Huw.
Yes, my 86 5KTQ has the battery under the rear seat.
Based on a alternator and starter pixs on the Haynes
manual, (I know is not the official thing, but it does
have some detail pix in there that come in handy
sometimes) your description holds:
"The 'battery under back seat' cars, I think, will
have one main battery to starter wire, and from there
will run wires to the fusebox and alternator, usually
with another wire running from the alt. to the
fusebox."
As for the starter exciter wire, I figured it goes on
the top position of the solenoid.
You mentiond, there are often 2 wires and I do see the
connection for the second one in the starter's
solenoid, but my car only has one wire to it. That's
how it was when I bought it.
Looking at my VW Quantum Syncro, with battery under
the hood, I see both solenoid connectors have a wire
going to, just like you described.
Could it be possible my 5KTQ be missing such second
wire that runs to the fuse box to keep more constant
juice while cranking?
Many thanks again for all your replys,
-Best Regards,
-Louis
