Is it Crazy?

When I bought my '86 Audi 5KTQ in 2004, the exterior
was in excellent shape with its pearl white paint nice
and glowy.
It was always garaged and serviced, from what I can
tell by an Audi dealer, can you believe that?
Under the hood however, it could have used a nice
detailing since the signs of age were showing.
The high pressure PS hose developed a leak and not
only did I replace it, but I also painted the metal
fittings with red high temp paint.
It made the rest of under the hood look rather old and
faded.
That prompted me to take apart all the accessories and
left engine completelty bare.
I detailed and painted everything, no matter how
minute, in a combination of red, black and blue.
I also replaced anything that needed replacement such
as most rubber hoses, gaskets, sensors, ect, ect.
My neighbords, the noisy ones of course, often
creticized me with statments ranging from "you're
crazy" to "no one is going to ever look at at that
part that's hidden" or "it's just a car," ect, ect,
ect.
I also took some heat from even my family, for
"wasting" some of my time on the car rather than with
them.
Over the past two weeks I've been putting everything
together and had it not been for a rainy weekend here
in south FL, everything would have been ready to go.
Anyway, the same critical neigbords, are now saying:
"Ah it looks very beautiful," followed of course by
the punch-line "let's see if it would start."
Indeed it looks very nice.
Hope to finish it this week.
Unfortunately, the exterior is not as presentable
anymore, thanks to hurricane Wilma last year.
I had the car in the back yard at the time, under a
canopy, which I had to take down during the storm.
Needless to say, debris hit it, scratching the paint,
mostly in the hood and front fenders.
I think, I going to have to paint it since I doubt a
good buffing would take care of the scratches.
Best Regards,
-Louis
