Hmm....The turbo may be taking up the available space, but the Type 43's -
T44 predecessors - had the battery under the back seat. Max may be right,
it also keeps the battery out of the elements so it doesn't look like a
wedding cake after a few salty seasons. It also makes the task of jump
starting less mundane ;-)

1980 Audi 5k - battery normally under back seat....when it's road worthy
1962 and '64 Auto Union DKW Junior deLuxes - 6v battery under hood -
terminals looking like wedding cakes
