About the only benefit I have ever seen with "hot ignitions" is better cold
starting. I used to run Alfa's and in the winter they just wouldn't start
without a really high-voltage spark- used to put in Heathkit Capacitive
Discharge ignitions with LOdge plugs ( Lodge plugs had built in capacitive
pulse sharpeners and auxillary spark gaps). This system would provide 60 kV
spark with sub-microsecond risetimes- could break down ANY wet plug.
Research has found that the larger the volume of the spark the better the
combustion efficiency- so with a 60kV spark - you can run up to .075" gap
and get a "fatter" spark - no increase in power- only gas mileage.

FWIW
