audi have announced a few things of interest @ the detroit motor show
1) a 7-speed longitudinal dsg gearbox
2) a 300bhp 3.2l v6 fsi engine with dual-stage valve lift (v-tec anyone?)
3) a car, the "roadjet", based on the a3 with a longitudinal motor (as
above), and a longitudinal gearbox (as above). in addition, it uses
electronics to allow 3 user selectable parameter sets to control the car
"drive select" controlling engine, transmission, shocks and steering.
4) the use of the new car-to-car communications standard
5) the s6, based on the same, albeit slightly detuned 5.2l v10 of the s8
(now 420bhp, 540nm torque). 5.1s 0-60, torsen-c. heavier than the s8
however.

it probably bears remembering that just 10 years ago it took porsche to
engineer an audi engine over 300bhp (sport q excepted), and now that mark is
available in a small, light n/a package with a 7,800rpm red-line.
