That's because a $25 crimper is more apples to apples with a $75 
soldering iron.

A $10 iron is a piece of useless junk to a professional.

A $25 crimper probably is a half decent, double action bit of gear.

You use what you have access to, and are comfortable with.

I just had to to do 14 splices (7 wires) going into my '89 90Q trunk 
lid.  Of course I set up with a nice iron and good shrink tubing (there 
is crappy shrink tube and good shrink tube, too...), and all it was, was 
tiresome, ie, work.  We'll see how well I did in five years...

But, you can't solder nicely without a *good* temp controlled iron, so 
for most people, crimping is better.  Crimping with a good heat gun to 
seal it up, of course.  But a good heat gun (Sears) is a cheaper than a 
good solder iron.
