Radio code clearing

I have recently encountered the "safe" mode on my 1995 S6 Bose radio. I was  
able to acquire the code to load into the unit, but the procedure I have is 
for  the Symphony and Concert models which doesn't work for my older unit.
Any one have the procedure?
On the Symphony model the "PSCAN" and "RDS" buttons are used, while on  the 
Concert series it's the "FM2" and "RDS" buttons.
I have tried a combination of some intuitively deduced buttons to no  avail.
