Louis,

I have owned my 90 Q sport since 1999. Purchased with 45k on clock. Currently have 160k

The car has been generally pretty good. But did have a few hiccups not sure if typical.

1) Had a new timing chain with 12k slip and ruined the head (expensive but I repaired w/o any compensation from Audi dealer last time for dealer service)
2) Full strut and bushing repair/replacement at 140k again expensive but wanted to keep car so worth it
3) Little PITA things
        a. various dashboard lights are not working - don't really want to pay to fix
        b. Interior roof light mechanism failed a couple months ago haven't replaced yet
        c. Rear brakes can stick leading to premature pad wear check ebrake linkage carefully
        d. Radio failed couple years ago - have yet to replace
       e. Heat currently not working (its cold in New England good thing butt warmers work actually the only time I really ever used the driver side ones) am chasing down cause - looks like mixer valve motor
        f. Clamps on dual exhaust couplers rust out and fail replaced first with OEM part (expensive) replaced second with heavy duty SS hose clamp from West Marine
both are hold up well. Moral go with clamp
        g. Windshield washer pump failed at 140k not bad to replace once wheel well shields removed.
4) Head gasket failed last month complete with coolant spewing from exhaust not cheap to fix
5) Knock on faux dashboard wood the clutch is original and still works well
6) Catalytic converter needs replacement though original exhaust is fairly sound - started rattling right after the 95k mark so no warranty replacement (good cheap aftermarket replacements available)

Conclusion, while I have paid for a few what I consider unnecessary repairs the car has been an excellent vehicle. Fit and finish are good. No rust and the paint has held up well. And it really is a good looking car. Maintenance is key though. Good luck and let me know if you have any specific questions.

J
