Trunk release?

OK, that's very funny... but nervously close to the truth.
I finally figured out what SQ stands for. Then I thought, any lucky sod
with a Sport Quattro doesn't deserve my help. Then I thought nicer of it.
Anyway, it ought to be like the UrQ/Coupe GT, yes. Not the 4k, which
has a normal lock and latch. You have a release lever in the door jamb,
right? And whether latched or unlatched, the lid sits the same?
I've had a coupe or two apart and seen how things are laid out. What
you are going to hope for is that the cable broke at the handle end.
If you remove the rear seat and interior trim panel on the same side as
the release lever, you should be able to get at the cable/sheath, and
maybe succeed in pulling on the cable and releasing the trunk.
If it broke at the other end, life is going to be tougher. With nerves
of steel and the patience of a saint, you might be able to go into the
trunk through a rear speaker hole, with a ratchet, extensions and some
light, and undo the catch bolts (10 mm, probably), letting the lid pop
up without being released.
Or, as John suggested tonguely in cheek, you can smash a tailight lens
and bulb housing out to make room for a hand or two.
You might be well advised to get a buddy with a coupe or urq to come
park next to you while you play these games, so you can get a close
comparison of locations rather than have to guess wildly.
Better ideas, anyone?
Good luck!
