reliability A4 V6 vs 1.8T

I have just over 70k on my 99.5 A4 1.8T Avant. It has been chipped (1bar,
very mild) and Mobil 1 since 10k miles.

I bought the car with the intention of doing this chip from the outset, and
it has been exactly what we want.

There are some tradeoffs. The V6 is clearly smoother. However, the 1.8t,
particularly with chip and manual trans, are much more torquey off the line.
The V6 cars also came with a slightly fancier wood interior. I would guess
the 1.8t is overall more fuel efficient, depending on your boost appetite.
My car has been carefully maintained, and has given me very few problems. I
know of others who have had more problems, with either engine.

Bottom line, I believe it is more a matter of proper maintenance than
inherent reliability in either engine. Choose based on the other factors,
and look for a car with a good repair history.
