It isn't just Audi - BMW did it too. I worked for Hoffmann Motors back
in 1968, and I saw the new /5 BMW motorcycles which were coming out to
replace the wonderful (but obsolescent) /2 models, and I asked when they
would be available. I was told not to be nosy, and "concentrate on
selling what we have." A week later, the "new" models were officially
presented.
