FWIW, the S40 is based on the Ford Focus / Mazda 3 chassis.
Not that there is anything wrong with badge engineering.

www.KBB.com puts the private party value (for zip code 03301)
with that mileage in good condition at $5,845. Excellent
condition is $6,455, and fair condition at $5,060. Since
you know the owner and have service records, $5K doesn't
sound too bad, and I'm sure it is a lot more than the
dealer offered for it as a trade-in.

If you are looking for reliability info, or fun to drive
info, I'm clueless.
