Broken Timing Belt

I just went through this; I picked up a '98 a4 w/ 110k on it, were the belt
went go at idle. or so the previous owner says. I ended up replacing all 8
exhaust valves, had the head refurbished (new guideds, retainers, lapped
valves), new gaskets all the way around, new snub mount, samco hose kit, new
diverter valve, spark plugs, all new accessory belts, t.belt kit, new water
pump, O2 sensor, ecu coolant sensor, all the necessary gaskets. I spent
right around $1800 on the head, and a bit less than ummm $2800 as a grand
total to get the car back on the road.

I have heard of the end of the valve snapping off, bouncing around in the
champer ruining the entire motor. I have heard of the valve moving the
piston off to the side enough to wreck the piston rings. I have also heard
of a case were one cylinder didn't raise quite as far as the other ones at
TDC, bent connecting rod? SO, it is a gamble.

Here is my thread from VWVortex which shows more or less what you may be in
for..
