I picked up the new dist cap, rotor and plugs this morning. Before I put in
the new parts, I'll try out your water spray idea tonight. I'm curious as
hell.
We have some street lights around here, so I'll cover the front of car with
a tarp to keep it as dark as possible.

Oh, this morning the car started right up! The weather conditions were not
quite the same as the other day, cool and damp. I think its a combination of
dewpoint and how long the car has been sitting that causes the "no-start"
conditions. Also, maybe the plastic in the distributor cap changes over time
due to heat, ozone, and high voltage. And  this makes the plastic prone to
absorbing moisture more readily, which then results in wayward arcing.
