Tat..Tat Noise in Engine

Grant,

Maybe no harm in leaving them rattle... The last lot I bought were USD $7 ea
so for $70 it was worth it not to have the rattle.  If you are doing the
timing belt it probably only adds an hour of labour also.

Why change them at all? I just let 'em make noise.
Went on happily for >200k miles (many years ago).
Does this lead to something bad?
